  • Ontario, Canada: Trading services are unavailable. Users can access market data globally but cannot deposit or trade, including via the iOS app.

  • Italy: Trading is restricted. Users can view markets and data but cannot trade.

  • Germany: Trading is prohibited. Existing positions must be held until market resolution to redeem shares, after which funds can be withdrawn without restrictions. Market data and commenting features are available.

Blocking Logic

The geoblocking system includes:

  1. OFAC-Sanctioned Countries: Countries sanctioned by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

  2. Additional Regulatory Restrictions: Countries added for specific regulatory compliance reasons

Close-Only Countries

Some countries have a “close-only” restriction status. Users in these countries can:

  • ✅ Close existing positions

  • ❌ Open new positions

Countries with close-only status include:

  • Singapore (SG)

  • Poland (PL)

  • Thailand (TH)

  • Taiwan (TW) For example:

  • Singapore (SG): Users may close their existing positions but cannot open new ones and should adhere to all local trading laws.

  • Poland (PL): Users may view market data and close-out positions only, no new position-taking is allowed.

Trading While Traveling

Polymarket allows trading for users traveling to non-restricted countries. Permissions are based on physical location rather than residency; for instance, users traveling to non-restricted regions, such as Bulgaria, can continue to trade.

Why These Restrictions?

Geographic restrictions are implemented to ensure compliance with:

  • International sanctions and embargoes

  • Local financial regulations

  • Gambling and prediction market laws

  • Anti-money laundering (AML) requirements

  • Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations
