Trading Fees

Understanding Fees on Polymarket

Polymarket charges a small fee on certain markets. We use these fees to reward users who provide liquidity to the platform, which helps ensure you get the best prices and a smooth trading experience.

Additionally, depositing tokens other than pUSD on Polygon may result in extra costs due to swapping or bridging, including gas and provider fees. Depositing pUSD via Polygon typically minimizes these costs.

What is always free?

Geopolitical & World Events: Markets in these categories are completely fee-free. Polymarket does not charge fees or profit from trading activity on these markets.

  • No fees to deposit or withdraw pUSD (though intermediaries like Coinbase or MoonPay may charge their own fees)

  • No fees to trade shares- Additional costs may arise from intermediaries or when using tokens other than pUSD on Polygon.

Deposits & Withdrawals: Polymarket does not charge any fees to deposit or withdraw your pUSD (though third-party providers like Coinbase or MoonPay may have their own standard network fees).

Sell orders are not subject to taker fees. Additionally, maker fees apply to executed trades, including fills from limit orders placed by market makers.

Starting March 30, 2026, Polymarket updated its fee structure for Sports markets, introducing a peak effective fee of 0.75% at the 50/50 price point. Future expansions will include other categories like Finance, Politics, Economics, Culture, Weather, and Tech.

How are fees calculated?

Fee Calculation for Sports Markets

Fees for taker orders in Sports markets are calculated using the following formula:

fee = C × p × feeRate × (p × (1 − p))^exponent

Where:

  • C: Number of shares traded

  • p: Price of the trade

  • feeRate: 0.03

  • exponent: 1 For example, for a 100-share trade at a price of $0.50:

    fee = 100 × 0.50 × 0.03 × (0.50 × (1 − 0.50))^1
    fee ≈ $0.38

    This represents the peak effective fee at the 50/50 price point.

Fees change based on the share price: The fee is highest when a share is priced at 50¢ (a 50% probability). The maximum effective fee rate is 1.80% at 50% probability.

Fees drop at the extremes: As a share's price gets closer to or 99¢, the fee gets smaller and smaller.

Fees are rounded to 4 decimal places. The smallest fee charged is 0.0001 pUSD. Anything smaller rounds to zero, so very small trades near the extremes may incur no fee at all.
